Blue Lapis Lazuli Beads with Turkoman Inlay Bead
The world’s best Lapis Lazuli comes from Afghanistan.
Lapis is a favourite material of mine, from the time I began making jewelry. My wedding band was white gold inlaid with pieces of heavenly blue Lapis.
The brass and Lapis inlaid bead is from Afghanistan. I love the way it complements the blue lapis beads.
Dress up or casual, this necklace goes the distance. The clasp is hand made from silver and treated with a black matte finish.
About the Stone
The pigment known as Ultramarine was originally made by grinding blue lapis lazuli into powder. The name comes from the Latin ultramarinus which means “beyond the sea” because the highly expensive pigment was imported into Europe from mines in Afghanistan by Italian traders during the 14th and 15th century.
