Square Pearl Button & Petrified Palm Pendant
Pale shades of ochre, beige, pink and raspberry. The colours in this stone remind me of a silk painting or perhaps a field of flowers seen from a great distance.
At the top of this pendant is an intricately carved antique pearl button. It could also be a cufflink. I am not sure. Either way, I like the geometric lines of the top piece and the way that it reflects the colours of the petrified palm underneath.
About the Stone
Apparently petrified palm comes from trees in the Oligocene Epoch, between 20 and 40 million years ago. Most palmwood has a characteristic spotted look but depending on how the lapidary cuts the stone you will also see spots tapering rods or lines of colour.
